Phishing Scams

Phishing scams are on the rise! They can be very convincing. Artificial intelligence engines are making it very difficult for even experts to detect phishing messages. Scammers will often make a phone call, send emails or text messages that they want you to believe are from a bank or organization. They may ask you to click on a link, provide personal information, or even call them back.

At Morton Community Bank, we are committed to educating you, our customers, and providing you with an extra layer of protection to your accounts. In addition, we join forces nationwide in an effort to fight phishing.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Be suspicious of any phone call, email or text message that asks for personal information, such as your username, password, or credit card number.
  • Never click on a link in an email or text message unless you are expecting the message and you are sure that it is from a legitimate source.
  • If you are unsure whether an email or text message is legitimate, hover over the link to see the actual URL. If the URL does not match the website that you think it is from, DO NOT click on it!
  • Also check the sender's email address. If the email address is not from a legitimate source, DO NOT click on the link.

If you think that you have been phished, immediately change your passwords for your online accounts. If you use the same or similar password for different sites, you should change your password for online services. Please report the phishing scam to the company that you think was impersonated.
